BUNGLING AUTO ELECTRICIAN

It was a beautiful morning in Krakow and George and I decided to set out for Nowa Huta, a modern industrial suburb on the outskirts of the city where a local told us there was a dedicated VW repair facility where George could try to have his horn repaired, most likely a loose wire or something else just as simple to fix.

CHAPTER 3

SIGHTSEEING KRAKOW

We were so exhausted from our previous day’s effort of getting to Krakow we slept like logs. Upon awakening Mrs. B already had breakfast ready, and boy did we enjoy our first breakfast in Poland. Ham and scrambled eggs with fresh rolls and good strong coffee.

INTO THE ABYSS

Having enjoyably spent the last few days among the bright lights, lively restaurants and friendly people of Western Europe, Nina and I were now approaching the grim, grimy and decidedly unwelcoming, border of Communist East Germany or the DDR (German Democratic Republic), very aptly named. I don’t think.
