I have just published my autobiography. Its title, Train to Australia represents a young refugee child’s perception of a long and uncomfortable train trip lasting four days in a devastated post-WWII Europe and the belief that at the end of the journey our family would arrive in Australia. It took more than a year before our family did finally dock at Fremantle in l950, in a torpedoed and hastily repaired American war frigate that ended its life by sinking in the Pacific during its return trip to the USA. My first days at school in Australia were a nightmare because I didn't speak a word of English - but managed to go on and to become a qualified teacher.
